Postdoctoral Associate - National High Magnetic Field Laboratory

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Researcher – NMR Structural Biology & Metabolic Flux Analysis
National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, University of Florida

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) at the University of Florida is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to develop cutting-edge carbon-13 detected NMR methods for structural biology and to apply advanced metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis using 13C tracers. This two-year position is funded by an NIH RM1 grant and offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment at one of the world's premier high-field NMR facilities.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will lead efforts in two key areas:

  1. Development of Direct 13C-Detected NMR Experiments for Structural Biology
    • Design and optimize novel carbon-13 detected NMR methodologies for studying biomolecular structure and dynamics.
    • Apply advanced pulse sequences and high-field NMR techniques to enhance spectral sensitivity and resolution.
    • Collaborate with biochemists and biophysicists to integrate NMR with complementary structural approaches.
    • Commission new high temperature superconducting (HTS) cryoprobes for structural biology applications.
  1. Metabolomics and Metabolic Flux Analysis
    • Design and implement 13C tracer-based metabolic flux experiments to investigate biochemical pathways in mammalian and microbial systems.
    • Analyze high-resolution NMR data to quantify metabolic fluxes and metabolite distributions.
    • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to interpret fluxomic data in the context of cellular metabolism and disease.
Expected Salary:

$58,700

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, structural biology, metabolomics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong background in solution or solid-state NMR spectroscopy.
  • Experience with 13C-tracer-based metabolic flux analysis is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in NMR pulse programming, data processing, and analysis (Bruker or Agilent systems preferred).
  • Strong computational and analytical skills; experience with MATLAB, Python, or R is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Special Instructions to Applicants:

In order to be considered, please submit the following documents:

  • Cover letter summarizing research experience and interests.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Contact information for three professional references.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. For inquiries, please contact Dr. Joanna Long at jrlong@mbi.ufl.edu.

Application must be submitted by 11:55 p.m. (ET) of the posting end date.
