Job Description: |
The Russell Lab at UF CAIP is seeking a dedicated and experienced crew lead. The ideal candidate will ensure the laboratory functions efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant regulations, thereby supporting the Center's mission to advance knowledge in aquatic plant management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboration: Collaborate with principal investigators, biological scientists, and graduate students on the team to plan the implementation of studies and associated tasks such as data collection and harvests.
- Laboratory Duties: Oversee day-to-day laboratory activities, ensuring adherence to the lab schedule, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures. This will involve planning daily tasks based on the research needs communicated by the rest of the team. This will also include working alongside everyone on daily tasks such as setting up and harvesting studies, data collection, and lab maintenance.
- Equipment and Inventory Management: Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring regular calibration and servicing. Manage inventory of supplies and reagents, coordinating procurement as needed.
- Data Management: Accurate and organized data collection is crucial to scientific integrity. The crew lead must ensure that assistants are adhering to proper quality control procedures when data collection is delegated to them.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations pertaining to laboratory operations and environmental safety.

Expected Salary: |
$20.00/hour, commensurate with education and experience. There is a possibility for this to become a permanent full time TEAMS position after probationary period.

Minimum Requirements: |
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Experience: Previous experience in laboratory management experience, preferably in plant science or ecological research is preferred.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability guide a team effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail. Ability to create and adhere to a lab schedule based on the needs of collaborators.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead team meetings as needed.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues within the laboratory setting.
