Job Description: |
- Provide a variety of non-emergency police services (foot/vehicle) to promote security for the university community populace and facilities, to include, but not limited to: conducting basic investigations, writing incident reports, and performing basic crime scene processing for non-violent crimes or activities involving trespassing, burglaries, thefts, criminal mischiefs, crash investigations, or sick/injured persons; patrolling through buildings, reporting suspicious activity/person(s), and clearing buildings of unauthorized persons; ensuring doors are properly secured and/or opened upon authorized request; monitoring service drives for parking violations; assisting law enforcement, fire department, and emergency medical agencies.
- Assist with basic crime scene duties to include: lifting fingerprints, taking measurements, taking photographs, collecting evidence, securing crime scenes, and writing crime scene reports.
- Perform traffic control, conduct increased patrols, provide escorts, assist citizens/motorists, support special events, etc.
- Answer inquiries from the public and direct to appropriate agency/division. Provide citizens with general information, etc., whenever possible.
- Attend training classes and seminars.
- Provide testimony and appearance in judicial proceedings.
- Miscellaneous duties.
- This position is designated as an Essential Employee. Essential employees provide vital support to the University of Florida (UF) and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police/designee. Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster, or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices. Employees are required to be in the work environment.

Expected Salary: |
$17.31/hourly
The base hourly rate of $17.31 per hour, plus overtime, equates to $39,983.50 annually - an equivalent of an hourly rate of $19.15.

Minimum Requirements: |
A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; working knowledge of judicial proceedings; working knowledge of principles of correct grammar usage; working knowledge of radio codes and other procedures; ability and skill to effectively communicate via police radio, telephone, etc.; knowledge, ability and skill in operating motor vehicles and other police equipment; ability to navigate University of Florida geography; ability to work effectively in stressful situations; demonstrate ethical, moral, inclusive, and professional behavior.
- Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications; ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to investigate and obtain critical facts; ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately; ability to collect and evaluate data; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner.
