Protoplast, Epicotyl, and Mature Tissue Transformation
Conduct research on citrus genome editing using protoplast transformation approach, including isolation of citrus protoplasts using enzymatic digestion, transformation of protoplasts with gene editing tools, and regeneration of transformed protoplasts into whole plants. Develop embryogenic tissue culture for select citrus species, by induction of embryogenic callus from citrus explants, and selection/regeneration of transformed embryos
Study citrus genome editing using epicotyl transformation approach, including transformation of epicotyl explants with gene editing tools, regeneration of transformed epicotyls into whole plants, and analysis of transformed plants for gene expression and phenotypic changes.
Examine citrus genome editing using mature tissue transformation approach, including transformation of mature citrus tissues with gene editing tools, regeneration of transformed mature tissues into whole plants, analysis of transformed plants for gene expression and phenotypic changes.
Relies on other researchers to learn about new transformation protocols and techniques.
Record Maintenance
Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities and results. Responsible for documentation of transformation, plant regeneration, micrografting, and propagation. Maintains documentation for transformation efficiency and regeneration rates, morphological and histological analysis of transformed plants, and micrografting and propagation of transformed plants.
