The Associate Director (AD) of the Center for European Studies (CES) oversees grants management, reporting, program evaluation, and serves as the coordinator for the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) program. Key responsibilities include managing programming and internal grants to align with grant narratives, providing budget oversight with the fiscal coordinator, organizing grant reporting, overseeing data collection for reporting, and coordinating program evaluation. The AD supports pre-testing new grant ideas and contributes creatively to revising grant narratives, particularly during the NRC/FLAS renewal process. In collaboration with the CES Director, the AD explores new grant and advancement opportunities and manages the Center’s internal grant cycles for graduate students and faculty. Additionally, the AD works closely with CES staff in outreach, fiscal oversight, and academic compliance with grant requirements. The primary duties for this position include but are not limited to:
Grant Management - Responsible for development, oversight, and management, including programmatic and fiscal aspects and program evaluation.

Grant Proposal, Submission and Renewal Oversight: Assisting in the development and submission of grant proposals, overseeing preparation of budgets, and collaborating with the CLAS Research Office.

Grant Reporting, Compliance and Program Evaluation: Managing reporting requirements for all CES grants, including overseeing financial and narrative aspects, and program evaluation while ensuring compliance with the University and sponsor guidelines.

Financial Oversight of Grants: Overseeing the fiscal management of grant-funded activities, including oversight over budget monitoring, spending, and adherence to grant requirements.

Internal Grant Management: Managing Center’s internal grant cycles for graduate students and faculty, including travel grants, course development and enhancements grants, European Studies Workshop grants, etc.
FLAS Coordinator - Responsible for the development, oversight, and management of FLAS fellowship. Advises graduate and undergraduate students on FLAS fellowships. Markets and expands awareness of FLAS on campus, submits grant reports, and ensures compliance with all FLAS requirements.

FLAS Administration: Managing recruitment, application, selection, and communication processes for the FLAS fellowship program.

FLAS Outreach: Markets and expands awareness of FLAS on campus through initiatives including developing and hosting information sessions for students, advising appointments, and via outreach to faculty and departments to raise awareness of FLAS.
CES Program Management – Responsible for development and oversight of CES programs and initiatives.

Staff Supervision and Development: Leads the outreach, fiscal and administrative staff, sets goals, conducts performance reviews, and promotes professional growth.

Preferred Qualifications: |
• Degree or certificate in European Studies or a related area of study. • Graduate degree with a focus on humanities. • Experience managing federal and international grants, particularly in the humanities or social sciences. • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience in program management. • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to engage diverse audiences. • Experience in developing and managing study abroad programs. • Familiarity with K12 outreach programs.
