Job Description:

Work with McTrans customers to understand their needs, provide technical support, respond to technical questions, and gather inputs for improving McTrans products.

Collaborate with product design for McTrans software. Provide technical knowledge and assistance to professional software testing to assure the accuracy of the analysis results. Work collaboratively with the software QA/QC team lead and provide feedback on the quality of the interim and internal versions of the McTrans software.

Provide technical knowledge, support, and recommendation for McTrans software design. Includes maintaining a master idea database of updates and new features for Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Highway Safety Software (HSS), and TSIS CORSIM. Actively populate the master database with ideas coming from customer support, competitors’ evaluation, training, and direct interaction with the customers (e.g., conferences and exhibit booths).

Provide support with virtual and in-person training, including presenting the material, performing software demos for prospective clients, and maintaining and updating training slides and resources.

Provide assistance with outreach activities, including a) presentations at virtual and remote conferences and professional meetings related to traffic engineering, ITS, highway capacity and safety, and traffic microsimulation, b) evaluate McTrans competitors and their products, c) collaborate with the social media team to create professional content to be posted on social media (in the form of text, infographics/images, and videos), c) attend conferences and professional exhibit booths (trade shows) and present new features on the product, d) be active on the social media (primarily LinkedIn) to promote McTrans software and services.

Expected Salary:

$75,000 - $95,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in traffic or transportation engineering or related fields.

At least ten years of professional experience at the Department of Transportation (DOTs), municipalities, metropolitan organizations (MPOs), or private firms (consultants) focusing on traffic management, modeling, mobility, and safety.

Professional Engineer (PE), or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certificate.

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to network and present professional content.

The incumbent must show knowledge of major traffic and transportation engineering reference materials, including the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) and the Highway Safety Manual (HSM). A moderate understanding of traffic modeling and microsimulation, including commercial tools such as HCS, CORSIM, Synchro, Vissim, etc. is required. Familiarity with design standards such as the Green Book is desired but not required.

The incumbent must possess a solid understanding of the state of the practice for mobility and safety analysis as well as a good understanding of traffic studies.

The ability to travel (10% to 20% of the time) is preferred.
