Job Description: |
The University of Florida’s Division of Enrollment Management is seeking an experienced and dedicated Accountant II to support the daily operations of the division’s Finance team. This pivotal role involves coordinating various accounting functions within the division, facilitating budget management, managing the accounting processes for student financial aid funds, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
Accounting Functions
- Administer accounting systems for the division.
- Develop and revise procedures for maintaining department accounting records.
- Formulate policies related to internal auditing and ledger maintenance.
- Continuously evaluate and review system effectiveness.
- Coordinate monthly reconciliation activities.
- Review financial records and complete routine and ad-hoc reports.
Budget Management
- Maintain financial records for departments in the division, providing periodic reports and advising on budgetary needs.
- Assist with researching, forecasting, entering, and justifying operating budget requests.
- Assist with managing budget functions, including uploading budget information in university systems, ensuring accounts are balanced, and advising unit management on fund status.
- Provide data and analyses on budget issues as needed.
Financial Aid Management
- Track financial aid funds from federal, state, and institutional programs.
- Ensure adequate cash management practices.
- Monitor funding utilization to prevent over or under utilization.
- Comply with program mandates and complete required reporting.
Cross-Training and Team Support
- Cross-train in all functional areas managed and supported by the Finance team.
- Assist or provide coverage for team members during high volume or absence periods.
- Maintain effective business relationships with division, college, and university core offices.
- Act as a liaison with Contracts & Grants and General Accounting.
- Attend college and university meetings to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Recommend policies regarding accounting functions and stay abreast of regulatory, compliance, and process changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located at the University of Florida's main campus in Gainesville, FL and may be eligible for a flexible, hybrid work arrangement in accordance with the University of Florida and Division of Enrollment Management's policies.

Expected Salary: |
$65,000 annually

Minimum Requirements: |
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
|
Preferred Qualifications: |
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and university regulations pertaining to accounting and fiscal management.
- Ability to prepare, present, coordinate, and monitor all federal, state, and university funding received by the Division.
- Ability to design and implement accounting systems as well as analyze and interpret data.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
- Must have substantial expertise relevant to the use of computers and appropriate software.
- Knowledge of fiscal accounting functions and processes.
- Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to handle the pressures of a high-volume, multi-faceted job assignment where excellent customer service, attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness are critical.
