Job Description:

Are you passionate about veterinary medicine and looking to build a rewarding career in the field? Join the University of Florida's esteemed veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant in our Anesthesia Service. Here, you'll play a vital role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians, enabling them to focus on safely delivering anesthesia to our patients. You'll rotate through the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, assist with patient recovery, and work closely with anesthesia technicians during the induction and recovery phases, including for diagnostic imaging procedures performed under anesthesia. Additionally, you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of anesthesia equipment, ensuring that all machines, monitoring devices, and related tools are in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities:

Walking patients and providing safe animal restraint for procedures such as exams, catheter placements, and bandage changes.
Safely handling and transporting animals throughout the hospital.
Assisting with patient recovery in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
Obtaining and accurately recording patient weight and vitals (TPR).
Submitting lab work and maintaining clear, professional medical records.
Sweeping, mopping floors, and removing trash/recyclables as needed.
Cleaning cages, runs, drains, grates, and assisting with laundry.
Disinfecting and maintaining equipment; reporting issues to managers.
Managing inventory, replenishing stock, and checking expiration dates.
Practicing infection control measures for biohazardous items and lab specimens.
Specialty tasks such as anesthesia machine turnover and cleaning anesthesia supplies.
Cleaning and maintaining anesthesia equipment, including anesthesia machines, monitoring devices, and other related tools, to ensure they are in optimal working condition.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday, with flexibility required for shifts starting before 8:00 a.m. or ending after 5:00 p.m.
Schedule may vary to cover other shifts or assist in different hospital areas based on patient care needs.

Expected Salary:

$15-$17

   
Preferred Qualifications

• 1-year experience working in Veterinary Medicine
• CVA
