The Core Research Facility Specialist I supports the mission of the ICBR Electron Microscopy Core (EM) of providing easy access to cost-effective expertise and cutting-edge instrumentation. The incumbent is responsible for preparing samples for examination by a transmission electron microscope (TEM) or scanning electron microscope (SEM) and is expected to play a key role in developing/maintaining a Cryo-EM workflow for single particle analysis and electron tomography. Specific duties include reagent preparation, independent operation of the TEM and SEMs, training and tracking of self-users, and performing maintenance of all laboratory instruments in consultation with the EM Scientific Director. The position will provide consultation to UF investigators and others on EM methods and approaches and coordinate biospecimen submissions and accessioning. The position may supervise temporary laboratory staff (OPS) and non-exempt staff in daily lab usage in the absence of the Lab Manager.

The specialist will also use web analytic tools to measure and analyze the effectiveness of marketing and communication campaigns, using the gathered information to make recommendations to the Department Chair and faculty regarding content, web design, publications, advertising campaigns, public relations, etc. These elements have a significant impact on the academic and research programs of MAE, and the overall quality of communications from the department is often a critical factor in securing research funding from granting agencies. Applicants should be comfortable working in a minimally supervised environment as well as in a team setting, though they will be expected to perform most of their duties independently.
