Job Description:

The Center for African Studies at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, time-limited, non-tenure-accruing position with a possibility of a one-year renewal at the rank of visiting assistant professor of African language instruction and pedagogy, beginning January 1, 2024. Applicants will have a Ph.D. in an appropriate related field by date of hire.

The successful candidate should be able to perform the administrative duties associated with coordinating an existing program of African languages: teach courses, recruit students, collaborate with faculty, supervise language teaching assistants, and monitor student progress. We prefer candidates with expertise in African language teaching methods and pedagogy, ready to develop online platforms and other innovative approaches. Possible related areas of research and teaching might include linguistics, language pedagogy, curriculum design, online instructional design, language documentation, etc. The ability to contribute significantly to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students is highly desirable.

The Center for African Studies is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Its mission is to promote excellence in teaching and research on Africa in all the disciplines at the University of Florida. The Center also disseminates knowledge about Africa to the wider community through an integrated outreach program to schools, colleges, community groups, and businesses. Central to this mission is sustaining contacts and expanding interactive linkages with individuals and institutions on the African continent. In addition to undergraduate education, the Center promotes and supports graduate studies as essential for the development of a continuing community of Africanist scholars. The Center has over 100 affiliated teaching and research faculty in a wide variety of fields, including languages, humanities, social sciences, agriculture, business, engineering, education, fine arts, environmental studies and conservation, medicine, and law. Advertised Salary:
