The Congenital Heart Center at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time highly qualified Congenital Cardiac Surgeon for a non-tenure faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the College of Medicine.

Candidate qualifications include Board Certification in Thoracic surgery after successfully completing an ACGME-approved Thoracic Surgery Residency as well as Subspecialty Certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. 

The ideal candidate will be a skilled, ABTS-certified surgeon or equivalent with expertise across a full range of procedures, including neonatal surgery, complex congenital transplantation, and advanced adult congenital surgery. Our program emphasizes collaborative and constructive teamwork across multiple medical disciplines. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability, and a capacity to contribute beyond clinical duties in areas such as innovation, education, research, leadership, or enterprise growth. Clinical proficiency and strong teamwork skills are essential to uphold the highest standards.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the entire spectrum of pediatric cardiac surgery including neonates, adult congenital, mechanical circulatory support as well as heart transplantation. A demonstrable clinical record and desire to pursue clinical investigation and/or translational research is required.

The Congenital Heart Center Surgery division consists of 3 surgeons, all with extensive clinical and academic experience. The clinical services are delivered at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital provides the full spectrum of pediatric specialty services and is one of the Southeast's premier pediatric medical centers.  UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital provides care for the children of Florida and is a major destination center for pediatric and congenital cardiac patients, both nationally and internationally, who require specialized attention for complex medical problems.

UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital represents the only quaternary-care academic pediatric center in North Florida. Our state of the art facilities include a 23 bed cardiac critical care unit, dedicated congenital heart intervention and EP labs with hybrid capabilities, dedicated operating rooms.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must possess a medical degree and board certification or eligibility in the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery, with a focus on Congenital Cardiac Surgery.
  • Required to have completed fellowship subspecialty training in pediatric congenital surgery, or have equivalent experience in practice demonstrating robust expertise in this field.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Florida.
  • Must hold, or be eligible for promotion to, the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient care and education and an ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also expected.
