This is a highly responsible position, which reports to the Research Regulatory Manager for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) office. The IACUC consists of scientists, non-scientists, and unaffiliated residents of the community who review the use of animals in research and teaching at UF under the rules and regulations of the USDA, NIH/OLAW and others who safeguard the welfare of these animals. The IACUC office supports the IACUC committee. This position is responsible for helping facilitate the appropriate use of animals in research and teaching by ensuring animal welfare and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. This position is responsible for helping to oversee the IACUC administrative services office (including supervising IACUC staff) which processes several thousand submissions each year consisting of new protocols, annual renewals, revisions, and facility inspection reports. This position should be an expert in applicable regulations and have experience in animal research. This position requires integrity for ensuring animal welfare and regulatory compliance, the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders (including ACS, EH&S, and external oversight such as federal regulators and AAALAC representatives), attention to detail, collaborating with others to address program needs, and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues. |
