This Biological Scientist position assigned to the University of Florida / Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Everglades Research and Education Center (EREC) in Belle Glade, Florida will primarily work with the Sugarcane Agronomist at EREC and the collaborators on cooperative sugarcane cultivar development program to screen new genotypes at different selection stages. The incumbent will work with a team of technicians to: 1. Coordinate and Conduct field trials to screen new sugarcane genotypes at different selection stages (seedling stage, Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4). 2. Rate disease symptoms and collect plant and tissue samples; 3. Plant, map and maintain experimental populations of sugarcane; 4. Collect yield and sucrose data on test genotypes; 5. Prepare tissue DNA samples for fingerprinting; 6. Operate sampling machinery, collect, tabulate and analyze data; 6. Calibrate sucrose analysis equipment such as cane presentation system (CPS) and MicroNIR; 6. Prepare reports to make selections at different stages.

The Research Regulatory Analyst II position is a highly responsible role, which reports to the Research Regulatory Manager for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) office. The IACUC is composed of scientists, non-scientists, and unaffiliated community members who review and oversee the ethical use of animals in research and teaching at UF, under the rules and regulations of the USDA, NIH/OLAW and other entities dedicated to safeguarding animal welfare. The University of Florida’s IACUC reviews animal research conducted at the Health Center, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and IFAS. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop, implement and lead the Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) program across campus. This position is one of two PAM coordinators in the IACUC office. Additionally, the incumbent will be cross-trained in various post-approval duties and staff areas within the IACUC to ensure coverage during periods of increased workload, and various staffing needs. Cross training within the IACUC also aims to provide flexibility to process modifications, enhance process efficiency and compliance.
