| Job Description: |
Laboratory management. •Oversees daily laboratory activities and direct the work of others. •Trains and mentors technicians, undergraduates, graduate students, and visiting scientists in lab safety, procedures, and instrument operation. •Maintains laboratory space and equipment. •Maintains laboratory supply and chemical inventories. •Orders necessary equipment and supplies.
General laboratory and semi-field or field work. •Coordinates shipping/receiving of samples and supplies. •Establishes, implements, maintains, and evaluates laboratory procedures. •Performs routine laboratory research activities, including mosquito insecticide resistance studies. •Records observations and measurements and reports results. •Maintains mosquito lab colonies in insectary. •Blood-feeds mosquitoes using chickens. •Performs DNA extraction. •Performs genomic DNA library preparation.
Data management and program support. •Manages resulting data from laboratory, semi-field, or field work. •Reviews experimental data and summaries of findings. •Prepares graphs and tables to document experimental results for publication. •Performs literature reviews.

| Expected Salary: |
$25.00 hour/ Commensurate with education and experience.

| Required Qualifications: |

| Preferred: |
Degree in entomology, biology, or related field •1-2 years of research experience, especially related to mosquitoes. •Strong verbal and written communication skills. •Experience preparing chemical solutions and working with micropipettes. •Experience with DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis •Ability to critically analyze procedures and results of molecular assays. •Proficiency in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as R. •Previous experience as a laboratory technician. •Previous experience training others in the laboratory. •Available to work for 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. •Willingness to work with mosquitoes and potentially be exposed to mosquito bites daily. •Good record keeping abilities and strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. •Ability to learn new methods/techniques and to work independently. •Willingness to conduct repetitive monotonous tasks in a timely manner, and to carry out tasks with close attention to detail and with a diligent working style.
