Job Description:

Essential Tasks - You will play a lead role in educating youth on disaster preparedness and resiliency and environmental education curriculum, all part of a grant-funded project through the American Red Cross Long-Term Disaster Recovery program. Your responsibilities will include:  

  1. Organize, deliver, and evaluate 30+ educational programs, including field trips, school enrichment activities, and summer camps for impacted students in grades K-12 through on-site and outreach programs (Sept-July), incorporating disaster preparedness and resiliency alongside positive youth development principles into existing educational classes, field trips, and camps.
  2. Strengthen youth life skills and resilience through hands-on educational experiences that align with Florida 4-H’s mission to develop leadership, civic engagement, and workforce readiness.
  3. Submit required grant expense documentation and evaluations, being the lead educator and coordinator during on and off-site programs and assisting in other grant duties as needed.
  4. Utilize Florida 4-H and American Red Cross curricula in outdoor/environmental education and disaster resiliency and life skills programming.
  5. Prepare and reset camp facilities for programs occurring on-site, including but not limited to facility/grounds upkeep and program materials maintenance and inventory.
  6. Provide supervision to youth during summer camp programs.
  7. Collaborate with fellow team members to create a lasting, positive impact on our Florida youth.

Work on average 40 hours/week, typically M-F, 8-5, with some night and weekend work required. 

Travel to 4-H Camp Cherry Lake and surrounding counties is required, and travel to 4-H Camp  Timpoochee and 4-H Camp Cloverleaf may be required. Work vehicle will be provided for travel.

Housing on-site at 4-H Camp Cherry Lake may be available.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

      1. Ability to teach research-based, hands-on curricula focused on environmental education, disaster resiliency, and positive youth development to youth in grades K-12 and adults.
      2. Strong and effective oral and written communication with both large and small groups.           
      3. Knowledge of basic grant and office skills to upkeep documentation for expenses and evaluation data.
 Expected Salary: $22/hour
Minimum Requirements:

A High School diploma or its equivalent is the minimum requirement.

Must pass a Background Screening before hire.

Valid driver's license required, as travel is part of this position.

Experience teaching youth.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience in education, natural resources, youth development, science, recreational leadership, or related fields.

Experience with educating youth in informal settings 

Willingness to obtain Open Water Lifeguard certification

Must pass a State and Federal Background Screening before hire.

Must hold a valid driver's license, as travel is required.

Must be willing to obtain CPR/FA/AED certification
