Classification Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of experience in appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description:

Manages, oversees, and conducts the review of IACUC protocol submissions/amendments/renewals for completeness and accuracy regarding health and safety compliance including biosafety, radiation safety and chemical safety. As needed, work with EH&S staff, committee members, the PI, and other relevant research/administrative staff to conduct and document risk assessments for specific hazards noted on protocols. Ensures compliance with NIH’s Guidelines for Research.

Serve as a liaison between Lab Safety, Biosafety, EH&S, IACUC and ACS staff. In conjunction with EH&S, IACUC and ACS staff, produce and conduct training programs, reference materials, web-based materials, and manuals relating to animal research safety. Respond to researcher inquiries and provide customer service regarding the animal research safety program, policies, and procedures.

Assist IACUC staff with the monitoring and follow up of health and safety concerns. Participate in AAALAC certification.

Participate in compliance committee meetings and regulatory inspections. Document relevant issues, and work with committee members, EH&S staff and the research community.

Other duties as assigned.

Valid Florida Driver's License is required.

Post offer health assessment and Criminal Background Check Required.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 40 hours per week.

Expected Salary:

$46,000.00 to $75,000.00 Annually

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of experience in appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Master’s degree in appropriate area.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with animal care in a research setting with biosafety experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

Understand concepts and principles of biosafety, lab safety and animal care and use.

Strong information technology skills to maintain electronic data, design or modify information flow, assist others with electronic forms and web-based applications.

SKILLS:

Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment

Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time constraints.

Program development and management skills.

ABILITIES:

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to laboratory safety and biosafety.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to work independently and to interact effectively with diverse groups of people Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments Ability to enter animal facilities.
