| Job Description: |
- Conduct field research and data collection related to the conservation of wildlife and its habitats in South Florida and the Caribbean. Record and maintain detailed procedures and results. Maintain stipulated protocols and quality and safety standards established by the wildlife ecologist. Follow UF procedures and operating policy for the research programs related to restoration of the Everglades and the ecology of South Florida and ensure compliance with UF guidelines. Modify existing methods based on findings.
- Prepares and monitors project budgets for payroll and distribution of funds related to travel, purchasing, and general operations. Responsible for procurement and purchasing for lab and reconciliation of expenses according to project budgets.
- The incumbent participates in the development and delivery of outreach strategies. Prepares and reviews presentations based on research findings for local, national, and international scientific meetings and workshops on ecosystem restoration and management, herpetology, population of crocodilians and reptiles, and general ecology.
- Implements and enforces all safety regulations and guidelines for research and data collection protocol. Responsible for managing general lab maintenance including inventory, cleaning, sterilization of lab equipment, improving overall lab efficiency. Responsible for on-site asset management and maintains computer, vehicle and vessel inventory, registrations and tag renewals. Oversees UF Go travel and purchasing and Gator TRACs annual risk assessment and staff training and compliance requirements. Evaluate new lab supplies and technologies.
- Helps develop and submits research budgets for funding on crocodilian and invasive species work. Oversees progress of in-house grant progress serving as liaison with Division of Sponsored Programs and Contracts and Grants in fulfilling budget allocations and expense reporting. Manages and allocates project budgets for payroll and distribution.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 8 am – 5 pm weekdays are the normal schedule

| Required Qualifications: |
Bachelors degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Masters degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

| Preferred |
- Bachelor’s degree in ecology, wildlife biology, two years of relevant wildlife experience in south Florida and Caribbean.
- Management skills of staff and lab personnel, and administrative experience handling budgets, proposals and procurement.
- Experienced in procedures for capture and collection of research animals with guidelines of Federal regulations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrable strength in multitasking and meeting deadlines, in writing and editing for general and scientific audiences.
- Strong public speaker and ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Ability to synthesize information on a wide range of scientific topics.
