Job Description:
This position is based within the genomics research team led by Dr. Guoshuai Cai in the Department of Surgery and Dr. Feifei Xiao in the Department of Biostatistics, in collaboration with the Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center (SCIRC) at the University of Florida (UF).

The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to contribute to large-scale clinical studies and to apply and develop state-of-the-art analytical methods and computational pipelines for diverse data modalities, including transcriptomics (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics), chromatin accessibility (e.g., ATAC-seq), protein–DNA interactions (e.g., CUT&Tag), and integrative multi-omics datasets.

The research will focus on elucidating biological networks underlying critical and chronic diseases and to identify novel therapeutic strategies by developing or applying multi-omic integrative methods. This role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of immunologists and critical care intensivists at SCIRC, with research spanning sepsis, trauma, vascular diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, and complex disease interactions.

In addition, the candidate will play a key role in advancing the Surgery Genomics Core infrastructure by establishing robust analytical pipelines and developing novel computational and statistical methods for integrative analysis of multi-omics and clinical data

UF Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center: The Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center, the first of its kind in the nation, studies long-term outcomes in patients treated for sepsis in the surgical and trauma intensive care units at UF Health Shands Hospital, with the goal of developing clinical solutions for sepsis as well as illnesses that stem from it and their enduring, dismal effects. The Center focuses on targeted clinical and preclinical studies to better understand the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms that drive long-term outcomes in critically ill hospitalized patients.

UF Surgery Genomics Core: The Genomics Core Facility, directed by Dr. Guoshuai Cai, provides comprehensive instrumentation, cutting-edge technologies, and expert technical support for genomics research. The core offers services such as next-generation sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, and advanced data analysis pipelines. It serves as a centralized resource for all investigators within the Department of Surgery at UF, enabling high-quality, reproducible results while promoting collaboration and innovation. In addition to instrumentation and technical support, the core provides consultation on experimental design, data interpretation, and integration of genomics data into translational research projects.
