Job Description:

Lead the Design of UF’s Flagship Research Publications

● Serve as Art Director for Explore magazine and other research publications.

● Conceptualize and execute engaging layouts, infographics and visual storytelling.

● Direct the use of photography and illustration to support editorial goals.

Oversee Print Production

● Build production schedules, manage deadlines and oversee multiple concurrent projects.

● Prepare print‑ready files and ensure accuracy in color, layout and typography.

● Write printing specifications, coordinate vendor bids and guide projects through pre‑press, proofing and final delivery.

Collaborate Across Campus

● Work closely with writers, editors, researchers and leadership to visually express complex research topics.

● Partner with web designers to ensure cohesive design across print and digital touchpoints.

● Provide visual guidance for digital content such as web graphics and occasional social media elements.

Support and Supervise Creative Staff

● Supervise an Art/Publications Production Specialist.

● Offer mentoring, feedback and quality oversight to maintain strong design standards.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with Education and Experience.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

● A strong, modern portfolio showcasing publication design and layout expertise.

● Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and other desktop publishing tools.

● Solid knowledge of print production, pre‑press workflows, paper selection, color management and vendor coordination.

● Strong project-management skills and the ability to balance deadlines with creativity.

● Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style.
