The Assistant Director of Pediatric Medical Education in the Department of Pediatrics serves as a key administrative leader in the Department. This role is responsible for strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement for the Department of Pediatrics Medical Education office (PME) and all of its administrative educational functions.
– Leadership and Operations of PME Office Provide strategic and operational leadership for the PME Office, ensuring high-quality administrative support across all educational programs. Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the PME Office, including fiscal and HR oversight. Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures supporting all departmental educational activities. Serve as the primary liaison to the COM Office of Educational Affairs, COM GME Office, and ACGME representatives. Maintain effective and professional relationships with representatives from the ACGME and with the COM Educational Affairs office and COM Graduate Medical Education office. Represent the department in national forums for pediatric education. Improve and implement the use of information technology (IT) for educational purposes within the department. Oversee the approval and maintenance of departmental educational communications and media. Assist in the enhancement of financial support for pediatric education within the department through grant support and philanthropic resources.
– Residency Program Oversight Under the Program Director’s guidance, provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of the pediatrics and child neurology residency programs, ensuring compliance with ACGME and ABP requirements. Monitor accreditation standards, identify and address areas of noncompliance, and coordinate materials and participation for site visits. Analyze ACGME surveys, feedback, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions. Research, develop and apply strategies to enhance educational quality, board pass rates, and overall resident experience. Oversee completion of, and assist with coordination as needed, key residency events including graduation, orientation, retreats, and departmental lectureships. Oversee tracking of resident scholarly activity, QI, and advocacy projects to ensure completion and documentation. Advance educational innovation through the use of technology, simulation, and competency-based assessment tools (EPAs and milestones). Coordinate all residency training initiatives including rotations, educational conferences, examinations, and Resident-as-Teacher activities. Manage trainee records, maintain an alumni database, verify training completion, and foster alumni and donor engagement. Direct and lead residency recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring compliance with NRMP and institutional guidelines. Serve as a liaison to ACGME, ABP, UF GME, AAP, and NRMP to ensure strong partnerships and program representation. Serve as a member of the residency executive team, including the Clinical Competency, Program Evaluation, and Program Selection Committees, contributing to ongoing program development and strategic planning.
– Fellowship Programs Leadership and Oversight Provide oversight and leadership to fellowship coordinators and ensure consistency across all ACGME-accredited subspecialty programs. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and graduation for fellows, ensuring NRMP and ERAS compliance. Manage and track all fellowship activities for the specialty Fellowships (ACGME accredited) in Innovations and for ACGME and American Board of Pediatrics. Plan and oversee monthly Fellowship Advisory Council Meetings including all subspecialty Program Directors and Coordinators. Oversee administration of Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) for residency and interdivisional CCC for subspecialties for required semi-annual reviews. Create a program of faculty development with respect to education. Plan, develop, conduct, and lead workshops for faculty and house staff on mentorship/faculty advisors, New Innovations, recruitment, evaluations, and giving effective feedback. Generate evaluation reports for faculty, residents, students, and rotations. Work with subspecialty program directors to ensure the technical and regulatory accreditation standards are met. Monitors compliance with ACGME requirements, anticipates deficiencies in compliance, makes recommendations, executes changes to meet requirements as warranted, assists in assembling and reviewing materials for internal review committee and accreditation site visits and participates in internal reviews. Participates in Program Evaluation Committee for all fellowships and reviews Annual Program Evaluation documents and ACGME WebADS documentation. Manage and disperse teaching and performance evaluations as they relate to the fellowship programs in New Innovations. Support the development of core educational curriculum and scholarly oversight committees for the fellowship programs.
– Education Operations Collaborate with clerkship director in administrative oversight of the pediatric clerkship by establishing effective learning experiences for all learners in the department via open communication and strategic organization and scheduling practices. Oversee scheduling and coordination of all learners within the department, ensuring balance and compliance. Evaluate educational workflows and implement improvements across all learner levels (students, residents, fellows).
