The University of Florida Diabetes Research team in Peds is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Biological Scientist I to support laboratory-based research and biobanking activities focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D). The position contributes to research efforts aimed at understanding the mechanisms of autoimmune diabetes, improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and supporting translational studies.
This role includes performing laboratory experiments, managing biological samples, maintaining equipment and supplies, and assisting with research documentation and compliance. The Biological Scientist I will work closely with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff to ensure efficient and accurate execution of research protocols within the UF Diabetes Institute.
Laboratory Research Support:
Conduct molecular, cellular, and biochemical experiments in accordance with approved protocols. Assist with preparation, handling, and storage of biological specimens, including human and animal samples. Maintain accurate experimental records and laboratory notebooks. Support ongoing projects through data collection, analysis, and documentation.
Specimen Handling and Data Management:
Process, catalog, and manage biospecimens for the Diabetes Institute’s research biobank. Enter and maintain sample data in secure databases. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and human subject research guidelines.
Laboratory Maintenance and Compliance:
Maintain laboratory organization, inventory, and equipment calibration. Assist in ordering and tracking supplies and reagents. Ensure compliance with UF Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements.
Reporting and Documentation:
Compile research data for project reports, grant progress updates, and publications. Participate in regular team meetings and communicate results to the supervisor and collaborators. Contribute to quality control, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and laboratory efficiency improvements.
