Experience in basic laboratory and greenhouse procedures is desired. The candidates must be able to train for and get a pesticide application license.

Job Description:

Assist with greenhouse, field, and laboratory work to support the Citrus Plant Pathology Research and Extension program at the University of Florida-IFAS/Southwest Florida Research and Education Center in Immokalee.

Greenhouse- and field-focused work will include assisting in field and greenhouse pesticide spray trials, involving the mixing, handling, and applying pesticides; setting up, maintaining, and monitoring trials; collecting, storing, and processing samples from field and greenhouse trials. The candidate will be responsible for plant maintenance, pest control, irrigation, and fertigation in the greenhouse.  

This job will require the following:

  • Working under harsh conditions (such as heat and humidity) for prolonged periods of time
  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time
  • Lifting moderately heavy objects for extended periods of time
  • Traveling to field sites distant from the research station once a week, which will require a valid driver’s license
Expected Salary:

$20/hr commensurate with education and experience.

Preferred:

Experience in pesticide application in the field, greenhouse maintenance (planting, repotting, etc.), sample (plant, soil, and pest) collection for lab analysis, and basic laboratory skills.
