Job Description:

Leadership of residential programs and student development 

  • Provide oversight and direction for a comprehensive residential program that promotes student learning, retention, and academic success
  • Oversee community programming and development in residential spaces ensuring strategic alignment with academic calendar, departmental and divisional goals 
  • Lead the development and evaluation of a practical and theory-based student development program and residential curriculum, living learning communities, and co-curricular initiatives aligned with departmental and divisional goals
  • Establish policies and procedures that guide residential operations, including health and safety, facility management, and emergency response
  • Lead execution of residential policies, procedures, and protocols including but not limited opening/closing, reassignments, damage assessments, and health and safety inspections 
  • Collaborate with internal units to ensure residential facilities are safe, secure, and well-maintained; conduct regular building inspections
  • Analyze assessment data and benchmark trends to inform program and policy improvements
  • Provide oversight to advisors of department sponsored student organizations (e.g. Area Governments) including but not limited to governance, programming, and financial management 
  • Provide administrative follow-up to students, families or faculty members, addressing concerns and needs
  • Responsible for emergency response safeguarding residents, employees, facilities, and assets in the event of emergencies or disasters aligning with departmental and University policies and procedures and divisional emergency management 
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority  

Oversight of Housing Community Standards and Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution Processes 

  • Adjudicate individual student cases via administrative hearings and administrative reviews or refer to other conflict resolution processes as appropriate
  • Lead efforts to monitor and manage investigations, charging, caseloads, prioritization, and completion of resolutions and provide reports to departmental leadership on a regular basis
  • Provide leadership for Housing community standards, student conduct code, and student honor code through all resolution process types
  • Responsible for records maintenance to ensure compliance with institutional policies, local/state/federal law, and reporting requirements; provides responsive information related to Florida Open Records requests
  • Monitor case tracking and monitoring to ensure efficient, accurate, and effective case processes. 
  • Play a key role in advancing staff training related to resolution processes, community standards, conflict coaching, and mediation
  • Make recommendations for ongoing improvement of processes, programs, and services offered through the resolution processes
  • Recommend improvements to policies, regulations, and procedures related to the community standards and conduct process in consultation with the appropriate campus partners (e.g. Housing & Residence Life, General Counsel)

Staff leadership and administrative management  

  • Supervise professional and student staff including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development 
  • Provide leadership in establishing goals, work priorities, and outcomes 
  • Manage administrative functions including HR compliance, payroll approval, and performance review processes
  • Oversee budgets for area and allocate resources to support program priorities
  • Lead the development, implementation, dissemination, and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, and compliance within areas of responsibility
  • Ensure effective use of information systems (e.g. Maxient, Housing Management Software) and corresponding data utilized in area operations and departmental processes 
  • Serve in after hours on-call rotation to respond to emergencies for area of responsibility 
  • Coordinate on-call schedules for area providing leadership during response and follow-up  

Develop reports, handle special projects, and perform other duties as assigned 

  • Serve on departmental, Division of Student Life or University of Florida committees or program support as needed 
  • Assist in unit or departmental strategic planning and reporting
  • Operates state vehicles  
Expected Salary:

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of experience. 

Preferred:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Obtained master’s degree in in higher education, counseling, leadership or similar field 
  • Experience with full-time staff supervision 
  • Understanding of student development (e.g. theory, application to residential communities)  
  • Experience with organizational conduct processes, including investigations
  • Experience with developing learning outcomes and assessment tools 
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis management  
  • Familiarity with relevant state and federal laws/regulations that impact student conduct policies and processes 
  • Experience working with budgets and other business-related functions   

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Maxient, StarRez) 
  • Demonstrated planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills   

ABILITIES

  • Ability to lead a team and work cooperatively with team members 
  • Proven ability to address nuanced problems with sensitivity and discretion
