JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Opportunity:

The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at the University of Florida is seeking a Registered Nurse II (RN II) to join our team. As an RN II at the SHCC, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care under the RN License standards in the Immunization and Allergy Clinic, collaborating with multiple clinical teams and rotating weekend coverage as needed.  

Your responsibilities will include administering immunizations for students, faculty, and staff, assisting with our annual flu campaign, administering allergy injections, and coordinating patient care with outside allergy clinics, providing treatments and procedures, administering medications, screening and counseling patients, and collecting and documenting vital signs, visual acuity, and Point-of-Care testing results. In addition, you will have the opportunity to provide independent nursing care using established practice protocols and standing orders, along with other clinical duties as assigned

RN II responsibilities: 

  • Assists with providing specialized immunizations to UF students matriculating into the university or graduate school.   

  • Assists SHCC Allergy clinic staff by administering allergy injections and coordinating patient care with outside Allergy clinics. 

  • Maintains and organizes patient supplied allergy serums within SHCC and coordinates delivery and receiving of patient supplied allergy serums from Allergist and SHCC Central Supply 

  • Assists with coordinating the SHCC’s annual Influenza Prevention (Flu Shot) Campaign for university students, faculty and staff.  

  • Assists with record clearance for new students 

  • Provides treatment procedures and administers medications as directed by providers. 

  • Documents pertinent information in patients’ health records. 

  • Monitors patient response to treatments. 

  • Provides independent care to patients using Practice Protocols and Nursing Standing Orders. 

  • Facilitates patient flow in a timely, efficient, and customer-friendly manner. 

Clinical duties:  

  • Processes patients to be seen by the provider. 

  • Collects comprehensive vital signs, chief complaint, and supporting subjective medical information. 

  • Starts IVs, performs wound care and dressings and administers medications. 

  • Screens and counsels patients and collects visual acuity when necessary. 

  • Performs Point-of-Care testing.  

  • Serves specialized patient populations. 

  • Coordinates Services in their home team when not assigned to cover other areas. 

 Education and Counseling:  

  • Educates and counsels patients on their specific medical illness, injury, and chronic condition. 

  • Promotes health and wellness through assessment strategies and ongoing education/counseling. 

  • Documents interventions in the patient’s health record.  

  • Coordinates care of specialized patient population. 

 Administrative and other duties: 

  • Provides RN coverage for weekend clinic as needed and assigned. Rotates with other RNs. 

  • Participates in regular staff and team meetings, staff development programs and on special projects as assigned. 

  • Collects statistics for reporting purposes and acts as a member of the SHCC Infection Control team 

  • Actively participates in AAAHC accreditation efforts. 

  • Coordinates with SHCC Pharmacy as needed 

  • Special projects as assigned 

 Typical Schedule: 

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm 40 hours/week Hours and days can vary according to the SHCC’s needs  

  • Provides rotational weekend coverage as assigned

EXPECTED SALARY:

 

 

 

 

$32.09 - $35.44 /hourly

Full-time TEAMS employees will accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly/22 days annually and sick leave at a rate of 4 hours biweekly/13 days annually. In addition, employees are eligible for ten paid holidays each year. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program and one year of professional nursing experience. Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes. 

  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support Certification

PREFERRED: 

  • EDUCATION & TRAINING: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. 

  • EXPERIENCE: Two years of appropriate experience.  

  • KNOWLEDGE: 

    • Knowledge of providing patient care using sound nursing practice. 

    • Knowledge of electronic health record. 

    • Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  •  SKILLS: 
    • Skilled in administering intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections 

    • Skilled in administering oxygen
       
    • Skilled in starting, monitoring and administering intravenous (IV) fluids and medications 

    • Skilled in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
       
    • Skilled in performing wound care and Point-of-Care Testing 
  • ABILITIES: 

    • Ability to communicate efficiently in writing and verbally with patients, family members and staff

    • Ability to take pertinent histories and document in appropriate health records

    • Ability to administer medications 

    • Ability to provide treatment to patients using guidelines, policies, Practice Protocols, and Standing Orders
