Job Description:

The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology is seeking a full-time Biological Scientist III in the laboratory of Emmanuelle Genoyer, Ph.D.

The Genoyer Lab is looking to hire a biological scientist to perform research related to RNA virology and innate antiviral immunity. The Genoyer Lab is opening in January 2026 and will study how viral RNA localization impacts infection and innate immunity during RNA virus infection, with a particular focus on flaviviruses. We are looking for excited and motivated candidates to help launch our research program.

This position will entail independently designing and performing experiments related to virology, molecular biology, and cell biology. The ideal candidate will have experience in virology, cell biology, immunology, and/or RNA biology and will be able to design novel experimental approaches and implement new protocols in the lab. Common experimental approaches include cell culture, viral infection and related assays, molecular biology assays, RNA imaging techniques, immunofluorescence assays, and fluorescence microscopy.

This position will also perform general laboratory maintenance, including ordering, routine record keeping, supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, inventory, maintaining stock solutions, and equipment maintenance. This individual will also supervise and train multiple technicians and graduate assistants.

Supervising/training lab personnel. Supervising laboratory technician(s) who are directly working on projects, as well as providing technical help to scientists working in the lab. Train and supervise graduate assistants as required.

Develop protocols to improve existing techniques or to incorporate new diagnostic procedures to the design and implementation of new laboratory protocols. Plan and conduct biological research in accordance with stipulated protocols and quality and safety standards.

Data analysis and preparation of manuscripts. Management of data analysis and the preparation of this data into figures for presentation at meetings and for publication. Writing and revising manuscripts.

General laboratory maintenance: includes ordering, inventory, supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, routine record keeping, and maintaining stock solutions, including cell culture media and common buffers.

Responsible for and required to protect laboratory (and UF) intellectual property. This includes maintaining confidential data accurately and safely in accordance with laboratory notebook SOPs and UF IP policy.

Expected Salary:

$58,656 - $62,652 Annually and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience

Preferred:

The preferred candidate would possess experience/expertise in multiple of the following areas:


• Degree in microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry or other related discipline
• Experience working with viruses and handling infectious material in BSL2
• Expertise in mammalian cell culture including generation of transgenic/knockout cell lines and/or experience working with primary cells
• Experienced in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or RNA biology techniques
• Experience with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence assays, RNA imaging assays and experience with image acquisition (fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy) and data processing
• Experience in developing novel methodologies and protocol development
• Excellent written and oral communication skills as evidenced by scientific publications and presentations at meetings
• Attention to detail, excellent recordkeeping, well organized
