Job Description:

The Associate Director of Construction and Planning with IFAS Facilities Planning and Operations assists the Director in the overall management and supervision of construction and planning projects across UF/IFAS facilities statewide. Duties will include:

  • Manages statewide construction and planning projects, including deferred maintenance, capital improvements, renovations, utility infrastructure, and maintenance-related projects. Develops project scopes, coordinates with design professionals, contractors, and subcontractors, and ensures successful project implementation. Works closely with user groups to meet project needs and schedules. Travel to IFAS sites statewide using state vehicles is required.

  • Oversees project financials and planning, managing budgets and ensuring compliance with all procedures throughout the life of each project, including warranty and close-out. Routinely handles the most complex and larger IFAS projects.

  • Directly supervises FPO project managers, including assigning projects, reviewing and approving funding requests, managing budgets, and conducting performance evaluations. Provides recommendations on hiring, termination, and approval of project contracts, ensuring adherence to UF policies and procedures.

  • Provides expertise in facilities and infrastructure analysis, identifying solutions to reduce deferred maintenance and improve operational efficiency.

  • Assists the Director in policy development and implementation, and performs other duties as assigned to support the department’s overall mission.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: State university system facilities management preferred.
• Expertise in renovation and construction management.
• Experience in site planning.
• Knowledge of UF Project Tracker, myUF MarketPlace, STARS, Autodesk, BIM 360, and Maxpanda.
• Ability to adapt easily to new and changing software.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Ability to secure key stakeholder investment.
• Understanding of UF funding regulations in relationship to construction purchases.
• Understanding of utilities, blueprints, and basic maintenance equipment.
• Experience with building permitting, especially EH&S requirements.
