Job Description:

UF, College of Dentistry, Department of Oral Surgery Resident is seeking applications for a Dental Assistant I. This position assists faculty and residents during daily patient care, including operatory setup and chair side assisting, routing patients to appropriate areas and providing written and verbal care instructions. The Dental Assistant I stocks clinical area supplies.

Duties include: 

Assist with outpatient and chairside procedures performed in implant center with cross coverage in both oral surgery and student oral surgery as needed.  Anticipate needs including instruments, sutures, etc.  Monitor and observe sedated patients by blood pressure monitor, electrocardiogram (EKG) monitor, and pulse oximeter under the direction of faculty/resident for indications of abnormal reaction during surgical procedures.

Assist faculty, fellows and residents at chairside in the care of patients.  Follow pre- and post-operative instructions for routine outpatient procedures.  Assist in preparing patients for local, conscious, and general anesthesia.

Responsible for maintaining operatories and equipment.  Ensure asepsis and that clinical supplies are maintained and restocked.

Expected Salary:

$15.00 - $20.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:
  • Certification in dental assisting
  • Certification in CPR
  • Certification in dental radiology
  • Certification as an expanded function dental auxiliary
  • Knowledge of oral surgery instruments and equipment
  • Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain oral surgery instruments and equipment; maintain and keep oral surgery clinic running on a timely basis; follow verbal and written instructions; plan, organize, and perform work assignments; and establish/maintain an effective working relationship with others
