Job Description:

The Director will lead the Lastinger Center’s design, development, and application of learning technologies, including evidence-based, technology-enhanced professional development resources developed in collaboration with the Directors of Literacy and Early Learning, Mathematics, and State Initiatives. The Director of Data and Learning Technologies will also lead the Center’s data strategy, management, and governance, serving as the data trustee delegate to the Center Director. The Director will offer key subject matter expertise in online learning technologies, including learning platforms and purpose-built AI agents. The Director of Data and Learning Technologies will develop strategic partnerships at the state and national level and cultivate public and private funding opportunities to support the Center’s technology portfolio. The Director will serve as the executive sponsor on related contracts and grants, responsible for managing the cross-team implementation of the projects. The position will also coordinate closely with the Center’s academic leadership to manage the Center’s overall research agenda and align on the Center’s relationships with external partners. The position will serve as a member of the executive team at the Center, report to the Assistant Center Director, and support enterprise decision making around the strategy, tactics, and operations of the Center. This will be a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment.

The Lastinger Center for Learning Environment

The Lastinger Center for Learning is an education innovation hub within UF’s College of Education focused on creating education systems that improve teaching and learning across early childhood and K-12 education. Specifically, the Center targets kindergarten readiness, 3rd grade reading proficiency, and algebra proficiency as critical milestones in children’s educational trajectory that are predictive of success in school and life. The Center works at the nexus of research, practice, and policy to develop sustainable systems that leverage educational technologies and improve the implementation of research-based practices. Job Responsibilities:

Vision, Strategy & Leadership

● Develop and articulate a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for the Center’s learning technologies and data initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Center’s overall mission and goals.

● Stay abreast of research and evaluate emerging trends in educational technology, data analytics, and instructional design to guide adoption and implementation.

Data Strategy, Management, and Governance

● Develop a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the center’s mission, enabling data-informed decision making and continuous improvement around the Center’s programming as well as accelerating research and development efforts

● Lead the design and development of workflow applications that leverage the center’s data assets to streamline operations, optimize programmatic outcomes, and facilitate reporting requirements

● Oversee data governance policies and practices to ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of educational and research data managed by the Center.

● Authorize and monitor access to sensitive data, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.

● Serve as the primary liaison for data-related issues, guiding teams on responsible data management and reporting requirements.

Product Development and Management

● Oversee the development of the Center’s products, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps.

● Manage the build of learning experiences in the Learning Management System (LMS) and Student Information System (SIS).

● Ensure products are delivered with high quality and in a timely manner to meet client and user satisfaction.

Learning Platform and Instructional Design

● Supervise management of the Center’s professional learning platform, ensuring it meets the needs of users.

● Oversee instructional design and interactive media development to enhance learning experiences.

● Collaborate with executive team members to integrate innovative instructional strategies.

Program Supervision

● Develop program plans, including scope, schedule, and budgets and reporting progress.

● Perform needs assessment and capacity planning for areas under your leadership.

● Define Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensure adherence to them.

● Supervise assistant directors, managers, and staff of functional workgroups and processes.

● Oversee employee development within the unit in coordination with the Organizational Excellence team.

● May lead or support projects employing cross-functional teams.

Executive Leadership and Collaboration

● Serve on the Lastinger Center’s executive leadership team.

● Assist the executive team in short and long-range planning as well as ongoing management.

● Represent the Center externally on appropriate committees and workgroups.

● Participate in university, statewide, or national committees.

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree in an appropriate area of specialization and relevant experience.
Preferred:

● Extensive leadership experience in technology and data initiatives within an educational or research setting.

● Demonstrated success in developing and implementing innovative learning technologies and data-driven solutions.

● Deep understanding of data management, analytics, and visualization techniques, as well as principles of educational technology and instructional design.

● Familiarity with relevant data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance requirements.

● Experience managing budgets and financial operations related to technology projects.

● Experience working in collaboration with university faculty and staff, K-12 administrators, and external educational partners.

● Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively, with a commitment to collegiality.

● Strong leadership and management skills, including supervision and team-building.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

● Experience with vendor management processes and guidelines, particularly at an academic institution.
