Environmental Field Work
- Gather, prepare, and maintain field equipment associated with water and sediment sampling, and the processing and preservation of collected samples
- Support other members of the research group in the field under extreme temperatures (heat)
- Operating non-powered watercraft (e.g., canoes, kayaks)
Environmental Lab Work
- After receiving appropriate training, prepare reagents and process samples for water chemistry analysis (inorganic nutrients)
- Conduct routine operations and maintenance of analytical equipment in the laboratory (AQ400 water chemistry autoanalyzer, Horiba Aqualog Spectrofluorometer, Turner Designs Trilogy Fluorometer)
- Maintain an inventory of laboratory consumables, and inform supervisor when supplies are running low
Data analysis and management. Potential tasks include:
- Data entry - Preliminary data analysis
- GIS analyses for map creation, watershed delineations, land use analyses
- Producing graphical visualizations of results
Scientific communication
- Develop and contribute to technical (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts) and non-technical (e.g., Extension fact sheets) documents describing results from the group
- Present results of research products at local, state, and/or national scientific conferences
- Provide feedback to other members of the research group on their dissemination products (manuscripts, presentations, etc)
Field and Laboratory Safety
- Ensure field and laboratory operations follow UF Health and Safety protocols
- Maintain all field and laboratory equipment to ensure proper operations
