Job Description:

The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Veterinarian to join our team. This position will be based across both our Gainesville and Ocala clinical locations and is responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care with a focus on exotic animal emergency services while in Gainesville.

This is a shift-based position, with the veterinarian scheduled to work 152 shifts annually, approximately two-thirds of which will be overnight. The successful candidate will be a vital contributor to the emergency and general care services offered at both hospital locations. When stationed in Gainesville, the veterinarian will serve as the primary point of contact for exotic animal emergencies, requiring confidence and proficiency in the unique care needs of non-traditional species.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Patient Care
-Diagnosis: Perform thorough evaluations to identify medical conditions in a variety of species, with an emphasis on exotic animals when appropriate.
-Treatment: Provide timely, evidence-based medical and surgical treatment to patients in emergency and routine care settings.
-Preventative Care: Deliver wellness care, including vaccinations, nutritional counseling, and routine screenings for both exotic and common companion animals.
-Coordination of Care & Client Communication: Collaborate with veterinary teams, specialists, and support staff to ensure continuity of care; communicate clearly with clients regarding treatment plans, progress, and follow-up.

Other Duties
-Participate in teaching and mentorship of veterinary students and interns as needed.
-Contribute to case rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital operational support.
-Fulfill administrative or collaborative duties as assigned by hospital leadership.

Expected Salary:

$130,000 - $150,000

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in veterinary medicine, licensed as a veterinarian in the State of Florida and two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred:

Completion of a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery or equivalent practice experience is preferred.
