The online graduate program within the College of Journalism and Communications (UF CJC Online) is seeking qualified instructors for two new courses in our 100% online Master of Arts in Mass Communication program.

Successful candidates will be available August – December 2025 (Fall semester) to work collaboratively with our administrators and instructional design team to develop one of three new courses. Course development is a formal/paid role. Course creation activities follow a specific process, so all courses meet Quality Matters (QM) standards. The first semester teaching the developed course will be Spring 2025.Teaching contracts will be offered on a regular basis thereafter, dependent on successfully fulfilling the requirements of the role and enrollment demands.
About our Sports Media and Communication Certificate
The College of Journalism and Communications is launching a new online graduate certificate in Sports Media and Communication. This certificate consists of four classes and a total of twelve credits. Students will explore sports media and communication with advanced training in strategic principles for media relations, marketing, and community engagement. They will master writing, digital content creation, and storytelling across multimedia platforms. This program prepares students for the global sports communications industry by combining practical skills with strategic knowledge for various sports contexts.
MMC6936: Digital Content Creation and Strategy in Sports
Course Description This course equips students with the skills to design and implement effective digital content tailored for the sports industry. Through hands-on projects and strategic analysis, students will learn to engage diverse audiences, enhance brand narratives, and leverage data-driven insights. Emphasizing ethical practices and inclusivity, the course prepares graduates to thrive in the dynamic landscape of sports media and communications.
Course Learning Objectives In this course, students will learn to:
- Demonstrate the ability to create and produce engaging digital content tailored for various sports platforms, utilizing multimedia tools and techniques to enhance audience engagement.
- Develop and implement comprehensive digital content strategies that align with organizational goals, focusing on audience analysis, platform selection, and performance metrics.
- Analyze and interpret data from digital campaigns to assess effectiveness, refine content strategies, and make informed decisions that optimize engagement and reach.
- Craft compelling narratives that enhance brand identity in the sports industry, employing storytelling techniques that resonate with target audiences and foster community engagement.
- Ethical and Inclusive Practices: Evaluate and apply ethical standards and inclusive practices in digital content creation, ensuring representation and accessibility across all platforms to reach diverse audiences effectively.
MMC6936: Global Sports Media and Communications
Course Description This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the sports media landscape, focusing on both U.S. and global perspectives. Students will examine the evolution of sports media, its impact on society, and the cultural, ethical, and strategic considerations in a globalized sports world. Through case studies, projects, and discussions, students will develop a foundational understanding of how sports media operates, the role of culture in shaping communication, and how international events and trends influence both sports and media.
Course Learning Objectives In this course, students will learn to:
- Analyze the historical evolution of sports media in the U.S. and globally, identifying key players, platforms, and emerging trends shaping the landscape.
- Examine how cultural differences influence sports communication strategies and develop approaches for effective cross-cultural engagement in the global sports industry.
- Evaluate the impact of media on sports development, societal narratives, and the shaping of public opinion and cultural values.
- Explore the role of international sporting events, media rights, and global sports marketing in shaping global sports narratives and audience engagement.
- Discuss ethical considerations in sports media, focusing on representation, inclusivity, and cross-cultural sensitivity in both domestic and international contexts.
- Identify current trends and challenges in sports communication, focusing on the rise of social media, the internationalization of sports leagues, and the role of digital platforms in engaging global audiences and promoting sports brands.
The ideal candidate will be available to develop and then teach a course to graduate-level students.
Basic Instructor Expectations:
- Prepare all course materials prior to the start of each semester.
- Meet Quality Assurance standards for course design through a collaborative working relationship with a team of instructional designers.
- Take ownership of course material and make updates to content and assignments to ensure the information is current and accurate.
- Proactively engage with students throughout each week through meaningful activities that promote student academic growth.
- Engage with students in a professional and respectful manner. Promote a positive learning environment.
- Provide individualized, supportive and meaningful assignment feedback to further student learning.
- Provide students with clear assignment expectations including directions, rubrics and samples if necessary.
- Reply to student and staff inquiries within 48 hours.
- Grade all student work within 10-days of the assignment’s due date or within 10-days of the submission date if the assignment was submitted late.
