Job Description:

The Maintenance Generalist Ill for IFAS Facilities Planning and Operations (FPO) inspects and performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on all UF/IFAS-owned buildings with a focus in building automation and HVAC systems. Position manages and supervises construction, minor projects, and renovations in UF/IFAS-owned buildings and leads or coordinates work for HVAC maintenance emergencies in the absence of the supervisor. 

Duties will include:

  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises small projects and minor construction jobs related to maintenance. Interacts on a statewide basis with various vendors, contractors, and UF employees to facilitate project bidding and completion. Assists building automation team with HVAC commissioning activities for new construction and previous installations, identifying and repairing building automation problems at statewide IFAS sites, including issues with fume hood flow or Siemens automation software. Overnight travel with a state vehicle to remote sites is required.
  • Identifies equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of residential or commercial buildings. Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary and completing all required paperwork.
  • Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and preventive maintenance, such as inspecting generators, drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or completing other preventive maintenance tasks without the need for daily supervision.
  • Leads or coordinates work for HVAC maintenance emergencies in absence of supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate project budget ledgers; computer use required for email and work orders. Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least four (4) years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trade.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair and minor construction.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with multiple trades.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers; basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of HVAC controls and troubleshooting.
