The Communications Specialist, working under the direction of UF Health Communications and the UF Health Aortic Disease Center, manages the communications needs of the center in support of clinical, educational and research goals set by departmental leadership. This strong, versatile writer has excellent organizational and creative skills, producing content for a variety of print and digital communications designed to enhance reputation and engagement for distribution to key stakeholders, including executive leadership, faculty, housestaff, administrators, and alumni. Responsible for developing and managing content for the center’s academic website and social media accounts. Liaises with colleagues in external communications roles (including those with responsibilities for media relations, science writing, social media, College of Medicine communications, marketing and web services). Identifies content to share with other departments such as Advancement and the university’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing, as needed.

Duties will include:
- Establishes communications strategies to elevate the reputation of the UF Health Aortic Disease Center.
- Maintains the center’s social accounts, crafting posts that drive engagement and help achieve strategic goals.
- Forges close working relationships with faculty and staff to scout for stories and to keep informed of clinical advances, scientific discoveries, and various other activities and goals.
- Generates content, including stories and news releases, for the website and key target audiences such as the media.
- As part of the UF Health Communications team, ensures compliance with policies and standards.
- Initiates regular contact with center leadership to ensure transparency with ongoing projects and to report results.
- Works closely with editors to review assignments, story drafts and ideas for upcoming work assignments.
- Maintains a regular social media publishing schedule, collects and reviews metrics, and makes adjustments based on performance.
- Educates faculty on social media policies to ensure compliance with UF Health Communications policies (i.e., confidentiality of patient information).
- Coordinates with UF Health Communications colleagues or outside vendors to secure photography, video and/or design services as needed.
- Ensures compliance with policies and standards. Complies with editing, review, news distribution and identity/branding policies of UF Health Communications and the university.
- Works with UF Health Web Services on web content strategies and maintains the UF Health Aortic Disease Center web presence, including ensuring clinical and faculty-related content on UFHealth.org is up-to-date.
- Identifies content that can be amplified and repurposed across multiple UF Health and UF channels, such as news releases, subject matter pitches, social media posts, publications, marketing campaigns and collateral, government relations briefs, and messaging for Advancement and other outlets.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Familiarity with health care and/or science writing in an academic medical setting. Experience reporting and writing on medical and scientific topics for a lay audience.
- Superb reporting and writing skills.
- Knowledge of SEO and expertise in social media execution, management tools and analytics.
- Proficiency in Word Press and Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated ease with learning new programs. Familiarity with the use of major social media platforms.
- Superior spelling, punctuation, and grammatical skills. Proficient in Associated Press style.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments independently.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team towards departmental objectives.
- Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
