Job Description:

This position will structure communications campaigns to achieve long-term and short-term organizational goals for the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) using digital and traditional channels and will analyze the effectiveness and establishment of the future direction of functional policies and programs.

The communications manager is responsible for the creation, implementation, and coordination of comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plans, and will develop and implement a marketing strategy to inform, increase awareness participation and utilization of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) programs and services in coordination with the Institute Director and team. The communications manager is responsible for leading and developing the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute’s (AIIRI) branding strategy, as well as creating and launching marketing and brand campaigns. This position will manage the development, production, distribution, and budgeting of promotional materials, both in digital and print formats, by working with internal creative teams, external vendors, and partners.

Incumbent shall evaluate effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute’s (AIIRI) marketing and communication strategies and will make key decisions regarding the creative direction and marketing goals. Incumbent will benchmark with individuals and organizations outside the university community and will identify, interpret, and capitalize on marketing trends relevant to the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI).

The communications manager will regularly communicate through electronic and printed media, including through websites, annual reports, social media, and newsletters to Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) members and community stakeholders. The incumbent will manage the brand of the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI), including all digital marketing channels (website, blogs, emails, digital displays and social media) to ensure brand consistency, and will oversee and prepare executive communications and presentations. 

The communications manager will develop campaigns to create and maintain high levels of interaction with Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) media and oversee SEO and Google Analytics. This position collaborates with UF Research Communications and other relevant offices for technical and design assistance as needed for the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) web-based, online marketing presence, and print collateral.

The communications manager ensures consistency and visual connection between print and online presence and maintains and updates Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute’s (AIIRI) social media accounts. The incumbent will oversee day-to-day social media campaigns and activities, which include managing blog content, creating effective online promotions, short-story telling, and building awareness for department activities. The communications manager oversees analytics from social media platforms to direct marketing strategies.

This position coordinates facility signage and digital display campaigns and will manage marketing related archive files for the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI), including but not limited to media clippings, image files, design files, and back-up of all digital files. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining the quality and accuracy of the aesthetics, content and general format of outgoing communications via website and digital applications and provides targeted communications to Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) members. Incumbent develops and implements training and provides support in the areas of marketing and promotions for Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) members.

The communications manager leads communication strategies and develops collateral for Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) presentations and proposals, including presentations, budget proposals, and other event support. The communications manager coordinates staff to make sure all Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI) members are educated on and follow communication and marketing guidelines. As needed and directed, the communications manager is also responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, managing and evaluating freelance media team members.

The communications manager is responsible for supporting brand and marketing related events for the Artificial Intelligence and Informatics Research Institute (AIIRI), oversees event coverage activities and drafting of text reporting on activities, assists with photography and video support, as needed, and analyzes event performance and prepares metrics for review.

Incumbent shall perform other related functions as directed by supervisor including developing reports and handling special projects.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
Preferred:

Proficiency with best SEO practices

Proficiency with managing and creating content in WordPress

Demonstrated experience in creating and executing strategic communications and marketing plans

Demonstrate experience in brand management

Demonstrated proficiency with graphic design software and Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, etc.)

Demonstrated proficiency in social media platforms, effective management of campaigns and related social marketing analytics

Must have a demonstrated strong track record in creating social media content for higher education, familiar with social media scheduling and digital marketing strategies.

Familiarity with Meltwater, media monitoring, Boolean searches, and other social media management, social media intelligence and social media management software.

Demonstrate ability to work with email communication platforms like Salesforce Marketing Cloud Knowledge of basic accounting and budget principles.

Excellent oral and written skills.

Must be reliable and able to adhere to weekly deadlines and have the ability to work independently and pro-actively to produce high-quality copy.
