Field data collection and growth measurements - These include following established procedures to image and study root growth and canopy growth, measure canopy density, chlorophyll fluorescence, and assess tree water relations. Gathering samples from field and greenhouse trees and implementing lab assays for growth or biochemical factors. Using equipment according to protocols to measure photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, and other physiological processes. Driving to field locations will be required.
Data analysis and management - Analyzing images of roots and canopies using existing analysis software to generate root and canopy architecture data. Compiling data from field measurements, conducting data analysis and generating summaries according to findings.
Plant care - Implementing field practice treatments according to protocols for designed experiments, assessing plant health and implementing pest, fertility, and irrigation management, as well as occasionally establishing plantings, and installing shading.
Lab collaboration - Works with other lab members to analyze data in the lab. Evaluating new lab supplies and technologies, maintain lab safety, and provide routine equipment maintenance.
