The Dairy Research Unit in IFAS is seeking an OPS Agricultural Assistant. This position is involved in various aspects of the unit operation, including but not limited to, milking cows, feeding calves, cleaning milking facilities and barns. It is critical that the employee be adept at following written and oral instructions as directed by supervisor, research and facility standard operating procedures and protocols. Full and part time available.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Milking cows: This includes bringing cows from pen to milking parlor according to farm procedures. Checking pens and starting the milking system, milk cooling, refrigeration, washing and feeding system. Remove cups from cows following the standard operating procedures (SOP).
- At the completion of milking, follow the procedures for plant cleaning and the shutdown process. Prepare the dairy in readiness for the next milking according to the set guidelines.
- Feeding calves milk, grain, and water. Cleaning, sanitizing, handling and health observations of calves at the facility.
- Keeping facilities and equipment maintained and cleaned.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Normal Work Schedule:
Evening shift - typical schedule is 4:30 PM to 12:30 AM. (Full and part time available)
