GatorWell is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated and health-conscious students to assist with the front desk and outreach duties with the Health Hut and at the GatorWell Main Office. Those applying will need to be comfortable taking initiative to approach students and encourage them to participate in interactive wellbeing related activities. Students of any major are welcome to apply. Primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Answer phones and schedule appointments - Maintain strict confidentiality of student’s personal information and appointments
- Prepare materials and buttons - For health communication messages for the main office, Health Hut, and Satellite Sites
- Assist and interact with all visitors - Answer questions and provide promotional items around health and campus resources, including potentially sensitive health related issues
- Provide peer-based education and outreach around sensitive issues – Including but not limited to the health topics listed below. Both via tabling and the GatorWell Health Hut
- Provide health and wellbeing resources - Brochures and promotional items
- Communicate health messages and conduct related activities - Developed by the GatorWell professional staff; to include an iPad based health intervention in the main office, as well as at various events around campus.
- Represent GatorWell Health Promotion Services - Possess a strong comprehension of GatorWell’s vision, mission and goals
- Working as a team with other Wellness Educators and Office Staff
All of this is centered on messages including the following health topics: Harm Reduction: Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs, Hazing Prevention; Healthy Relationships: Interpersonal Violence Prevention, Sexual Health; Flourishing: Sleep, Stress and Time Management; and the 10 Dimensions of Wellbeing.
Expectations:
For this position, work shifts will take place primarily at the GatorWell main office at the Reitz Union, as well as tabling and working regular shifts in the GatorWell Health Hut at various events around campus as needed. Students are expected to be highly responsible and dependable. This position works as part of a creative team that includes Health Promotion Specialists and other students. In this position, you may need to field question(s) (in person or by phone or email) around sensitive issues such as, sexual health (safer sex including STD/STIs & birth control options), interpersonal violence, alcohol, and stress, as well as actively engage any visitors to the GatorWell main office and via outreach.
For those selected for an interview, you will be asked to perform a brief, 3-5 minute “skit” during your interview. The purpose of the skit is to showcase your communication skills and ability to organize thought in a scenario similar to the daily work expectations for a GatorWell Front Desk Wellness Educator also providing outreach. Qualifying Questions:
- Are you a current undergraduate student at UF’s main campus in Gainesville, FL?
- Are you able to work Summer 2025 through the end of Fall 2025?
- Are you able to attend bi-weekly wellness educator team meetings (TBD; Fall & Spring 6-8 times per semester)
- Are you able to conduct office hours in the GatorWell office within the Reitz Union?
- Are you able to work outreach shifts at the GatorWell Health Hut?
- Are you currently employed at UF in any capacity? If yes, please describe.
Please describe your time commitments in detail (work, academic, volunteer; hours and times not available) for the Summer 2025 semester.
