Job Description:

The Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry is dedicated to building a more food-secure campus for the UF community. Responsible for providing free access to nutritious food for any campus member, the Pantry is at the forefront of meeting campus members’ basic food needs. The Field & Fork Pantry is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated graduate student to support the daily operations of the pantry sales floor. Those applying will need to be experienced tasking and leading student staff and volunteers to provide superior customer service to guests. They will need to feel comfortable engaging with students, staff, or faculty guests in a confidential and respectful manner. Students of all majors are encouraged to apply, though students with a background or current graduate work in the following areas will be strongly considered: public health, health education and promotion, counseling and counselor education, business administration, or higher education/educational leadership.

Primary responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist Pantry Coordinator with direct supervision and support for student staff and volunteers to ensure delivery of excellent service to pantry guests. 
  • Ensure pantry sales floor is stocked, clean, and organized according to operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with pantry staff to ensure shift coverage is maintained. 
  • Field sensitive questions related to pantry shopping eligibility, food category limits, community resources, and media requests.
  • Assist student staff and volunteers with operating tasks.
  • Assist with other Field & Fork Pantry projects and programs as needed.

Time Commitment:

  • 15 hours per week.
  • Must have weekday daytime availability.
  • Ideal start date: March 21st, 2025
  • Must be able to commit to Summer 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2026
  • Attend onboarding and training upon employment (details TBD)

Position reporting structure:

This position will be supervised by, and work in collaboration with, a full-time professional Pantry Coordinator. They will have consistent communication with their supervisor through regular meetings.

General Expectations:

Graduate student staff are expected to be highly responsible, organized, excellent communicators, and autonomous. Dress in pantry is business casual such as a DSO polo, khaki pants or knee-length shorts, and closed toe shoes. Students most work out of the Pantry location (564 Newell Rd Gainesville FL).

Expected Salary:

This is an hourly position and does not include a tuition/fee waiver or benefits. The salary is $15/hour.

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all graduate students who are eligible to work on campus in Gainesville. Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled for at least six credit hours a semester. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Must be able to ideally start in March 2025

Must be able to work office hours physically in the Field & Fork Pantry.

Must be able to commit to 15 hours per week to this position and its responsibilities for Summer 2025, Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 

Must be able to attend any required trainings and Pantry staff meetings.

Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have experience, employment, teaching, or volunteering in the field of food service, retail, food insecurity, social services, public health, nutrition, or wellness.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Strong interest in food security, social services, food access, and/or food systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with public speaking and/or group facilitation.
  • Ability to work on a team and connect with others easily/outgoing 
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience leading a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Have obtained a bachelor's degree
