Job Description:

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Engineering Education (EEd) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida (UF), the flagship institution of the State of Florida university system. This is a 12-month faculty appointment.

The Engineering Education Department was formed six years ago and has grown to 24 full-time faculty. The EEd Department focuses on innovative research related to all aspects of engineering education, and the integration of research findings into practice in the engineering classroom. The community within EEd values and provides strong career progression pathways for both tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty. The Department offers PhD and MS degrees in Engineering Education and oversees several engineering service courses, including HWCOE first-year design and multidisciplinary capstone design (Integrated Product and Process Design: IPPD). It also coordinates HWCOE interdisciplinary programs such as the Computer Engineering BS program and two new AI-related MS degrees.

The Chair oversees the operational management of the department and is responsible for: (1) developing, with faculty, a compelling vision for advancement of the department in education and research programs; (2) facilitating/mentoring scholarly and professional growth of faculty, particularly early-career members; (3) ensuring cutting-edge education is provided to all  (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral and researchers); (4) increasing sponsored research through external and private funding opportunities; (5) enhancing working partnerships with other HWCOE departments, UF colleges, administrators, as well as industry and government agencies; and (6) cultivating corporate, governmental, alumni and other private donations.

Eligible applicants for this internal search must be faculty within any department of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida at the rank of Full Professor or Rank of Associate Professor that can clearly demonstrate they are on track to becoming a Full Professor.

Expected Salary:

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in engineering, engineering education, or closely related field and have a record of distinguished scholarship and external funding within the field of engineering education research as well as excellence in teaching and mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates must be committed to high academic standards; skilled in the development and expansion of sponsored research programs; experienced in enhancing the success of graduate student mentoring and early career faculty mentoring; strong in leadership, management, and interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills; and collaborative in academic unit problem solving.
