A Post-doctoral Associate position is available in theoretical physics of living systems in the group led by Dr. Gabriel Birzu in the Department of Physics. The expected start date is Summer 2025, with some flexibility.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, with strong mathematical and computational skills. The candidate will conduct theoretical research on microbial ecology and evolution. Possible research topics include inferring statistical models of microbial community dynamics from time series data, studying the dynamics of complex microbial communities, and developing models of adaptive evolution in spatial populations. Prior knowledge of biology is a plus, but not necessary. Collaboration with scientists from other departments or institutions will be encouraged.
This position will be initially awarded for two years, and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for a third year.
