Job Description:

Mouse survival surgeries and postmortem analyses.

Plan and conduct advanced research projects primarily involving injections of viruses (AAVs) or toxins into different brain regions of mice using stereotaxic surgical methods. After incubation period, isolate brains for postmortem analyses, including brain perfusions, vibratome sectioning and antibody labeling or dissecting brain areas for monoamine level measurements by HPLC.

Histology and Imaging

Tissue sectioning, antibody labeling, microscopy for capturing images of antibody labeled sections. and analyze data and assemble results for scientific publications, grants, and conference presentations; assist in preparing data for scientific manuscripts, abstracts, grants, and other documents; manage accurate and complete laboratory research records.

Behavioral analyses

Perform research experiments investigating the effects of various transgenes injected through AAVs on behavior of mice. Behaviors include open field, novel object recognition and operant conditioning.

Research Project Coordination

Coordinates special studies or projects as directed, responsible for coordinating activities of ongoing animal research projects. Responsible for the complete understanding and compliance with all required laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines Maintains accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies. Manage ordering processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding; maintain lab supply inventory to ensure supplies are available for scheduled research projects; researches and evaluates new products, compares and negotiates vendor prices.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary: $58,000-$59,000 per year
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with survival surgeries, injections of viruses and toxins, histology, and sterile cell culture of mammalian cells.
