The Program Assistant will work under the direction of the UF State Coordinator for the Florida Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) Program. This is an OPS position. In this capacity, the individual will assist in the implementation of the Florida SARE Program, which is a train-the-trainer program. The responsibilities include regular communication with the Florida A&M University State Coordinator for Florida SARE, UF administration, state, regional, and county faculty members, farms, non-profit organizations, and faculty members at other educational institutions.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Extension – 20%. (1) Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for UF extension employees, graduate students, and other groups and individuals working in sustainable agriculture, including non-profit organizations and farmers. (2) Collect and analyze data such as pre- and post-tests of knowledge to document efficacy of extension activities and programs.
Communication -- 15%. (1) Provide leadership in communication to implement Florida SARE programmatic activities among a wide variety of actors. (2) Respond to routine requests for information about sustainable agriculture and funding opportunities.
Fiscal Management – 5%. (1) Process all PCARD, travel sponsorship, and reimbursement transactions with the support of IFAS Shared Services. (2) Track all charges to ensure accurate accounting on the Model State Program budgets.
Project Development and Reporting – 5%. (1) Assist in the development and submission of annual project proposals for the Florida SARE Model State Program. (2) Assist in the development and submission of annual project reports for the Florida SARE Model State Program.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor – 5%. These are non-routine activities that can include presentation of results at state and national venues, completing required training or training that the employee requests to improve personal or project performance, and participating in venues like webinars related to job duties.
Normal Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE). Limited weekend or overnight travel may occur.
