Job Description: |
TA/STA for Statistics for Neuroscientists GMS 6025C is heavily hands-on "lab" based and TA/STAs are expected to help guide students in their skills and knowledge development during the process through effective small-group teaching methods. In-class time is ~4 hours/week and grading/office hours is expected to take an average of 1-5 hours/week depending on the cohort and grading efficiency. The anticipated enrollment is only 9 students, and many assignments and in-class problems will be in small groups.
Role and Tasks: In-Class Guidance: Rotate through groups working on in-class problems to help them refine their planning, approach, programming, and interpretation. Office Hours: Be present and available to guide students to develop their own understanding and solutions to worksets/problems. Canvas Discussions: Check for and respond to questions posted by students within a reasonable timeframe (~daily). Grade Assignments: Grading will emphasize guiding skills development, not simply marking for points (i.e., code review).

Expected Salary: |
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements: |
Experience with RStudio, Rmarkdown, and Tidyverse functions, particular for data carpentry and data visualization (ggplot2). Experience with General Linear Model statistics https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_linear_model in R (lm function).

Preferred Qualifications: |
Prior successful teaching experience focused on technical/mathematical/statistical topics for diverse background/skillset students. Strong R/Tidyverse knowledge. Experience with effective (and recognizing/avoiding ineffective!) visualization of complex data and an solid understanding of the Grammar of Graphics (Wilkinson) and other related frameworks. |
