The Compensation Specialist II evaluates department requests to create new staff positions or to reclassify positions to a different classification. Reviews draft position description and organizational chart, researches class specifications and similar positions, and requests additional information from department as needed. Approves, recycles, or denies the request to create a new position or reclassify a position. Provides guidance to departments and hiring specialists with questions related to classification of new, vacant, and filled positions.
Evaluates position action requests to update position descriptions. The Compensation Specialist II reviews to determine changes to the position description and position record in Organizational Development in myUFL. The specialist confirms that the updated duties are consistent with the classification. Evaluates and approves changes in department ID. Reviews and approves changes in FTE after obtaining FTE change letter from department and confirming with Employee Relations.
Evaluates requests for staff pay increases. These include special pay increase requests as well as changes in pay due to reclassification. Makes determinations about appropriate salary increases for additional duties, market equity, counteroffers, reclassifications, and evaluates and analyzes internal and external salary data for purposes of salary equity comparisons. Provides recommendations and/or approval to departments.
Reviews, interprets, and ensures compliance with rules, policies, and procedures related to the university’s classification and compensation practices, and advises departments accordingly. Acts as a liaison with department contacts in answering procedural and operational questions about classification and compensation actions, including questions related to submitting position actions within myUFL. Makes recommendations for changes to rules, policies, and procedures and serves on committees and groups involved in reviews of business processes.
Leads or participates in special classification or compensation projects as assigned. These projects may involve reviews for individual departments or university-wide initiatives. Duties may include but are not limited to developing new classifications or coordinating department projects.
Completes salary surveys (phone or written). Reviews, analyzes, and interprets surveys pertinent to the University of Florida. Researches issues, consults with Compensation Specialist II and/or Assistant Director as needed, formulates recommendations, and composes responses. Maintains monthly report for the department and conducts monthly cleanup of positions in Organizational Development.
Presents training programs for employees and supervisors on classification and compensation concepts and procedures.
