Processing of Sugarcane Genotypes Stage 3 Evaluation: ◦ Collect and organize data on 100-135 new sugarcane genotypes at five locations (3 muck soil, 2 sand soil). ◦ Conduct planting, harvesting, and data collection on yield and disease parameters. ◦ Maintain data according to established laboratory procedures set by the team leader.
Seedling selection: ◦ Review 10,000 seedlings in sand soil for sugar yield and disease resistance ◦ Participate in the collection of yield and disease data in collaboration with other technicians. ◦ Ensure accurate and timely data management and reporting.
Field Assistance Assists Field Crews and Cooperate with Farms: ◦ Assists with planting, crop maintenance, and harvesting processes. ◦ Works alongside cooperating farms to ensure timely and efficient execution of field operations.
Support for other selection stages of the sugarcane breeding program Assist with Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 4 Evaluations: ◦ Support the evaluation of sugarcane clones at various stages of the breeding program. ◦ Participate in planting, maintenance, and data collection for these earlier stages.
Research Support and Efficiency Improvement Assist in Various Research Projects: ◦ Contribute to projects focused on agronomy, nutrient management, plant pathology, and new instrument calibration. ◦ Engage in trial implementation, data collection, entry, and analysis to enhance the efficiency of the breeding program. ◦ Field research on sugarcane, energy cane and other crops as needed
Sugar Cane Testing Follow instruction of USDA Scientists, Florida Sugar Cane League and local grower collaborators: ◦ Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform selection testing of sugarcane clones. ◦ Schedule and helps coordinate meetings or communications to align testing protocols and data sharing. ◦ Ensure all parties are updated on progress, challenges, and results.
