Job Description: |
We are excited to announce a new career opportunity at the University of Florida (UF) as the Manager of the new UF Bird Observatory. We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to oversee our observatory operations. This role is pivotal in advancing our research, educational outreach, and conservation efforts related to bird banding and avian studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, supervise, and conduct bird banding activities following the highest standards of safety and research integrity.
- Lead educational and outreach programs aimed at students, researchers, and the broader community to promote avian conservation.
- Train and mentor students and volunteers in bird banding techniques and bird conservation strategies.
- Manage daily operations of the observatory, including maintenance of banding equipment, data management, and compliance with all relevant wildlife and research regulations.
- Collaborate with academic and research staff to facilitate research projects, publish findings, and secure funding for observatory initiatives.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local, national, and international conservation organizations and educational institutions.
Full-Time (40 hours weekly) with an expected start date of January 1, 2025.

Expected Salary: |
$23.95/hr
|
Minimum Requirements: |
- Certified Master Bander with a proven track record of handling, banding, and processing birds for research and conservation purposes.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience in public education and community outreach related to wildlife conservation, specifically avian species.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in training and supervising teams, particularly in an educational or research setting.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced degree in ornithology, wildlife biology, or ecology.
