The McIntosh lab at the University of Florida, U.S.A. is seeking a motivated OPS Laboratory Assistant to pursue research related to viral links to cancer including the cancer-causing Epstein-Barr virus. This research combines bioinformatics, molecular and cell biology, immunology, genetic, and biochemical approaches to investigate host-pathogen relationships in separated populations of virus infected cells and patient-derived cells. Duties:
- Design and develop research projects with senior investigators and the Principal Investigator
- Conduct experiments using a variety of techniques including qPCR, RT-qPCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation, cloning, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and flow cytometry.
- Conduct bioinformatic analysis of RNA/DNA sequence data, proteomics data, and/or develop computational tools to facilitate analyses and the presentation of results.
- Initiate and maintain cell cultures
- Prepare and maintain biological stocks
- Maintain proper lab and experimental records, both digital and hard copy
- Test, optimize, troubleshoot new and existing methods and techniques, and update protocols
- Guide and train junior researchers as needed
- Prepare scientific results for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Maintain laboratory equipment and order supplies as needed
- Present results at internal meetings and scientific conferences as needed

Preferred Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Biology or a closely related field.
Working knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, experience in mammalian cell culture and basic biology techniques including qPCR, RT-qPCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation, cloning, immunoprecipitation, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and Western blotting
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Familiarity with computer languages is desirable.
