Prepares for and conducts quarterly radiation safety inspections of university laboratories to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Completes duties associated with inspection performance including reviewing radiation safety related information and records, scheduling visits, conducting site visits, administering survey questionnaires, visually inspecting laboratories, and evaluating various pieces of radiation safety related equipment. Requires interaction with principal investigators (PI), technicians, students, departmental administrators, and UF’s Facilities Services Division.
Evaluates radiation safety survey results, generates reports, and provides assistance related to noted deficiencies as needed. Evaluates corrective actions from noted deficiencies and follows up as needed.
Conducts routine radiological surveys of approved radiation use areas using liquid scintillation counting and other radiation safety counting equipment.
Conducts administrative tasks including but not limited to auditing purchase requisitions and purchase orders sent through UF’s eProcurement system for radioactive materials and radiation safety equipment, monitoring the Radiation Safety email inbox and answering general radiation safety-related questions, managing and tracking EH&S forms such as radiation safety protocols and decontamination forms, and updating radiation safety training materials, reference materials and web page content as directed. Supports health physicists with hospital and patient duties related to the radiation safety program.
Completes special projects including the evaluation and gathering of data from the University research community; benchmarking with peer safety programs, researching safety related topics, assisting with, or providing training to the research community.
Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites that requires a valid driver license.
Completes other duties as assigned.
A criminal background and post offer health assessment will be conducted.
Work hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be able to work on campus.
Occasional travel to offsite locations. Occasional response to after-hours incidents.
