Job Description:

Operational Support:

Serve as a key member of the lab’s operations team, responsible for the day-to-day running and maintenance of the lab and wind tunnel. Assists researchers, faculty and staff in setting up experiments, fabricating, calibrating and troubleshooting specimens and equipment, and ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the wind tunnel and other instruments of the lab.

Collaborative Work:

Works closely with the senior staff, engineers, researchers, and technicians to contribute to discussions on experimental design, test procedures, and potential improvements. Helps ensure the wind tunnel and other instruments are utilized effectively and efficiently.

Maintenance and Improvement:

Responsible for the regular maintenance and servicing of the wind tunnel and other experimental equipment, ensuring that it remains in good working order. Identifies opportunities for upgrades or modifications to the wind tunnel, based on operational experience and data analysis. Contributes to the development and maintenance of documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),

Data Collection and Analysis:

Responsible for collecting, and processing, the data generated during experiments, using specialized software and statistical methods to interpret the data that is crucial for evaluating the performance of the systems and the models being tested. Provide insights to the engineering team based on the data analysis.

Expected Salary:

$25.00-$27.00/hr; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in experimental fluid dynamics, wind tunnel testing, or a similar role
  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of wind tunnels and related equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Careful attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records.
  • Proficient in data acquisition, analysis, and visualization software (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
