Job Description:

Under the direction of the HR Director and Associate Director, the Assistant Director of HR Strategy will oversee the College of Medicine (COM) HR business partners team, ensuring a strategic, efficient, and effective review and approval of HR requests to support COM and its units. This role involves training and supporting business partners to provide optimal guidance and pathways for achieving human resource goals. A background in health science, clinical, or foundational science units, and familiarity with faculty-related operations such as credentialing, promotion & tenure, and clinical requirements is preferred.

The Assistant Director is expected to have a thorough understanding of UF directives, policies, and procedures related to human resources and to strategically communicate and guide processes and actions. As a key member of the COM-HR leadership team, the role will involve attendance at college events and motivating the business partner team to foster a strong sense of community, collaboration, and alignment with the college's mission. Additionally, the incumbent will enhance the role of HR as a strategic partner and peer to COM and department leadership, supporting overall organizational effectiveness through leadership and strategic HR management, while upholding COM-HR standards of customer service innovation and quality.

About This Role

Leadership and Oversight of the Business Partner Team

  • Supervise and guide the daily activities of the business partner team, ensuring high performance and a strategic approach to addressing HR needs for the College and its departments.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify HR needs and lead the team in developing effective strategies to meet these needs, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Drive the development, improvement, and streamlining of business processes to support the College's HR management goals.
  • Monitor and assess team performance, implementing improvements and addressing issues as they arise.
  • Promote the College's mission and values through leadership, team engagement, and participation in college events.

Team Empowerment, Training, and Development

  • Empower the business partner team by fostering a culture of autonomy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular training, coaching, and mentorship to enhance team members’ skills and ensure they are equipped to meet the evolving HR needs of the College.
  • Develop and implement professional development plans for team members, ensuring opportunities for growth and career advancement.
  • Lead initiatives to improve team performance, including setting clear goals, providing feedback, and recognizing achievements.
  • Create a high-performance team environment by promoting knowledge-sharing, encouraging innovation, and supporting professional development.

Senior HR Business Partner

  • Provide strategic HR consulting and transactional support for assigned departments.
  • Collaborate with departmental HR partners to implement HR strategies and streamline processes.
  • Attend leadership meetings to ensure HR strategies align with departmental goals.
  • Offer senior-level guidance on complex HR issues and initiatives.

Operations and Process Integration and Implementation

  • Partner with the Assistant Director for HR Operations, Associate Director, and Director to develop, design, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and new HR processes and strategies.
  • Utilize data and analytics to assess and enhance HR processes and outcomes, making data-driven decisions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating policies and procedures to align with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Provide indirect supervision and support to the transactions team and resolve complex issues and escalated cases in the absence of the Assistant Director for HR Operations.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead and/or participate in college-level and college-wide strategic initiatives, collaborating with senior administrators and leaders.
  • Play a key role in strategic recruitment for high-level faculty and administrative positions, requiring strong knowledge of university regulations and an understanding of COM administrative, clinical, and departmental operations.

Expected Salary:

$95,000 - $105,000; commensurate with education and experience  

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess: 

Master’s degree in Human Resources, Management, Business Administration, Health Sciences, or a related field, and four years of progressively responsible experience in strategic HR management, including significant experience in a senior HR role within a health sciences or academic medical center environment, with a strong background in understanding departmental operations and translating this knowledge into effective HR strategies, or Bachelor’s degree in the same fields and six years of the same type of experience.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior HR role, preferably within a health sciences or academic medical center environment.
  • Proven track record of managing and leading HR teams, with a focus on strategic HR management and business partnering.
  • A deep understanding of departmental operations and the ability to translate this knowledge to support and guide other HR business partners effectively.
  • Experience in empowering and developing team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience serving on a leadership team, building credibility and trust, and translating business needs into effective HR strategies.
  • Experience using data and analytics to drive HR decision-making and measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of UF directives, policies, and procedures related to Human Resources.
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and experience handling complex HR issues and escalated cases.
  • Proficiency in using data and analytics to inform HR strategies and decision-making.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior administrators and faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to drive HR initiatives and support strategic objectives.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficiency in HR management systems and related software.
  • Experience with designing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process improvements.
